Título / Title

STRAWBERRY RETINA: HYPERREFLECTIVE TOMOGRAPHIC FINDINGS IDENTIFIED ON THE INTERFACE OF THE RETINA AND 5700 CTS SILICONE OIL

Introdução / Purpose

To describe a case series of "strawberry retina" identified on the interface between the inner limiting membrane and the 5700-centistoke (cts) silicone oil (SO) surface using optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Material e Método / Methods

Case series.

Resultados / Results

This case series describes the OCT and funduscopic findings observed in four eyes of four patients who underwent vitreoretinal surgery with 5700 cts SO tamponade. During the postoperative period, multiple and discrete hyperreflective material deposits scattered over the macula on the retina-SO interface were identified while performing OCT images. The corresponding OCT findings appeared as dark spots on the color fundus images and red-free retinography, which resembled the appearance of a strawberry. In one of the cases, the patient underwent SO removal and the OCT findings were no longer observed.

Discussão e Conclusões / Conclusion

“Strawberry retina” can be identified on the interface between 5700 cts SO and the retina. This finding may disappear after SO oil removal.
