PIRAMIDAL GUIDE TO INSERT SOFT-TIP TO VALVELD TROCAR
Introdução / Purpose
Currently, the difficulty of inserting instruments such as silicone cannulas tip into valved trocars for vitrectomy remains a challenge. The aim of this study is to develop a system that attaches to valved trocars to facilitate the insertion of soft-tip cannulas during vitreoretinal surgery.
Material e Método / Methods
This system is made of stainless steel and is placed over the microcannula trocar system without compromising its valved function. The external tube has a pyramidal-shaped distal end, allowing for easy insertion of the soft-tip’s silicone distal portion. This prevents distortion or bending of the silicone tube, which often makes insertion difficult for the surgeon.
The external tube with a pyramidal tip creates a snug track for the silicone cannula, applying an outward force that breaks through the valve without causing damage or bending to the silicone tube. Experiments were conducted with 23-gauge, 25-gauge, and 27-gauge models, all featuring the same pyramidal design.
Resultados / Results
As a result, we observed that the system does not damage the silicone tips at the distal end of the cannulas and no difficulties to insert the soft-tips in to the eye providing the surgeon with much greater confidence when aspirating, inserting, or injecting substances into the vitreous cavity.
It also does not weaken, damage, or alter the compliance of the valved trocar system, ensuring their proper function in maintaining pressure or intraocular tone in optimal conditions.
Discussão e Conclusões / Conclusion
Due to these challenges, we have developed a simple system that attaches to the trocar, allowing surgeons to insert soft-tip with ease, without causing permanent damage to the tip or hindering its use. This system, made of stainless steel, functions as a guide for the cannula through the trocar valved, preventing bending or breakage.
The device features a pyramidal-shaped distal end, facilitating cannula insertion while preserving the structure and function of the valved trocar.
