Título
DETECTING RETINAL TEARS WITH PRECISION: THE UTILITY OF USING MONOCHROMATIC BLUE CHANNEL RETINAL IMAGING
Objetivo
We aim to highlight the use of the blue channel in digital retinal imaging to identify peripheral retinal tears in patients with reduced pigmentation in retinal pigment epithelium.
Método
Report of a series of cases
Resultados
We present a series of images of different cases where the blue channel was useful to identify the real extent of a peripheral retinal tear , specially in a patients with decreased pigmentation in the RPE. Multimodality imaging techniques encompassing color fundus images, the green channel, and the blue channel were employed in this study, as well as autofluorescence. While color fundus images and the green channel alone were insufficient for accurate identification of the retinal lesion area, the blue channel provided clear visualization of hyporeflectivity in the region of the tear. Conversely, the blue channel did not enable detailed visualization of subretinal blood, when such was present, which was better observed in both color and green channels
Conclusões
The utilization of the blue channel in digital retinal imaging presents a cost-efficient and non-intrusive strategy for detecting peripheral retinal tears in individuals exhibiting diminished retinal pigment epithelium pigmentation. This approach holds considerable promise as an invaluable means for early detection and management of such pathological conditions. Nevertheless, further investigations are imperative to ascertain the sensitivity and specificity of this technique in distinguishing retinal lesions.
